“I Never Planned To Act” — Stella Damasus Breaks Silence On Career Twist, Misjudgment, And Her Bold Comeback

“I Never Planned To Act” — Stella Damasus Breaks Silence On Career Twist

OpenLife reports that Nollywood actress Stella Damasus has revealed that her journey into acting happened by chance, despite building her early dreams around music.

Speaking during an appearance on the Tea With Tay Podcast, the veteran actress explained that many people have misunderstood her range over the years, often assuming she is limited to a particular style of performance.

According to her, this perception — which once prompted subtle apologies as expectations from audiences boxed her in does not reflect her true capabilities.

She said her renewed presence in the film industry is driven by a desire to prove that she can deliver beyond what viewers have previously seen, noting that she wants to showcase “different sides of her acting abilities.”

Damasus disclosed that acting was not her first passion. After moving to Lagos at the age of 15, she focused on music and actively pursued a singing career.

She performed at Jazzville in Yaba and also worked at Klinx Studios, where she developed her vocal skills through backup singing and recording jingles.

With guidance from mentors in the music industry, she believed strongly that “her future would be firmly rooted in singing.”

However, her transition into acting came unexpectedly. She recounted how a friend convinced her to attend an audition in Ikeja on a day she had no plans of leaving the house.

At the time, she was living with her sister in Surulere and had not prepared for such an opportunity. That spontaneous decision eventually marked the beginning of her acting career.

Beyond her professional life, Damasus also spoke about her family, describing her children as her “greatest support system.”

She emphasized the “strength and unconditional love they provide,” adding that she believes “her children were given to her by God with the understanding that they would stand by her through life’s challenges.”

Now back in the spotlight, the actress is focused on redefining how audiences perceive her and expanding the scope of her work in Nollywood.
