OpenLife Nigeria reports that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has re affirmed that the reason for the excavation of some roads in Kogi Central was a deliberate security measure to restrict criminals from gaining access to that part of the state.
On Thurday, February 23, operatives of the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force had intercepted workers of Chinese construction firm, CCECC, allegedly engaged by the state government to cut off roads leading to Kogi Central Senatorial District.
Public affairs analysts who reviewed the situation submitted that it was a plot to prevent the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agents and other stakeholders from accessing the senatorial district during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
In the course of the concerns and dust raised by governor Bello, the state government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said that the decision to cut off the roads was sequel to an explosion that rocked the Okehi Local Government Secretariat Complex few days earlier, as well as the Okene blast of December 29, 2022, during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the State.
Speaking on Arise TV Friday night, governor Yahaya Bello maintained what his Information Commissioner earlier presented to the public, re affirming that the reason he excavated the road was to save life and property
The governor stressed that he got intelligent report that hired thugs were going to use that route to perpetrate mayhem on the citizens and as a governor he was not going to fold his hand s and allow that to happen in his state.
“We took the decision at our state security council meeting. That road I dug was one of the roads intelligence revealed that will be used by the hired thugs,” the governor defended.
