OpenLife Nigeria reports that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has disclosed information about the under current between her and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
The Peoples Democratic Party Senator, PDP, spoke Friday morning during her appearance on Arise TV.
Before then, Natasah had promised to expose what she describes as the leadership style of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
This comes in response to her referral to the Senate’s Ethics and Disciplinary Committee following a heated confrontation with Akpabio over a seating dispute in the chamber.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a strong reaction, declared her readiness to appear before the committee but insisted that the proceedings be made public rather than held behind closed doors.
She made her stance clear in a post on Instagram, calling for a live broadcast of the investigation to ensure transparency.
Her referral to the committee follows a petition filed by the Northern Youths Advocacy for Excellence, NOYAD, accusing her of corruption, abuse of power, and mistreatment of staff within the Senate Committee on Local Content, which she chairs.
The petition urged the Ethics Committee to probe her alleged illegal, subversive, and intimidating activities and impose necessary disciplinary measures if found guilty.
In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan denied the allegations and emphasized her commitment to transparency, vowing to speak openly about the accusations and broader issues concerning the Senate’s leadership.
Speaking Friday morning, Natasha said “Do you know what, the situation with me in the Senate is comparable to situations in schools where female students are made to fail in their examinations simply because they refuse to comply with male teachers’ romantic approaches.”
Natasha recalled, during the Arise TV conversation how, at various times where she had been told “There are various way we can have fun,” stressing that the “Night club” utterance by the Senate President “Was not a mistake.”
Equally, Natasha stated that at a time when pressure was on her, probably for romantic expediction, Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele “Called me in the night and said if Akpabio falls I will also go down. I heard Akpabio voice at the background. This happened around midnight.”
Going further in her ordeal in the Senate, Natasha said that Senate President Akpabio “Calls me Princess of the Senate.”
“Akpabio told me how His Royal Majesty, King Keagborekuzi Benjamin Ikenchukwu, the Dein of Agbor called him” to explain to him that his reputation as a Senate President is being rubbished.
“Akpabio said I should go and tell the youth that “If anybody attacks me, I will take the person down,” Natasha disclosed.
Natasha further narrated what transpired in Akwa Ibom with Senator Akpabio “He got to this particular sitting room and asked do you like my house? I said yes sir, every room is beautiful. He said now that you are a senator, I am going to create a time for us to come and spend quality moment here….”
The conflict between her and Akpabio erupted recently when she confronted the Senate President over the relocation of her seat within the chamber.
The disagreement escalated, prompting Akpabio to call for Senate security to remove her from the floor. However, the intervention of other lawmakers prevented the situation from spiraling further.
Following the incident, the Senate’s spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions, stating that the Senate is a place for serious legislative business, not entertainment.
Taking the battle further, Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday, February 25, filed a N100.3 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio and other individuals, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing dispute between the two lawmakers.
