How IBB Tricked Me

OpenLife Nigeria reports that after many years when their paths crossed in the administrative corridors of Nigeria, Professor Daniel Iyorkegh Saror has opened up on some salient happenstances between him and former President of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Ret’d.
Speaking in an interview, Saror said Babangida is a good man but the Niger State retired general tricked him at a point.

Narrating his experience, Professor Saror said he never knew who was being tipped as the Vice-Chancellor of ABU.
Saror was the University VC between 1991 and 1995 said he was on his way from Glasgow, United Kingdom after a research mission when Colonel Victor Umaru, ret’d, who was in the same flight with him announced to him that he had been made the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University.
“IBB never consulted me. There was no hint anywhere that I was being considered for the position of VC. It came to me as a surprise,” he stated.
Born in Zaki Biam, Benue State, Professor Saror, a veterinary surgeon, University administrator, teacher, politician and 7th Vice-Chancellor of ABU, was educated at Gindiri Boys Secondary School, Plateau State, 1957-1961; Gindiri Higher School, 1962-1963; Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA, 1965; Kansas State University, 1967, and 1970; University of Minnesota, USA, 1972-1973 and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The attempt to move high in his political journey saw him contesting Benue governorship in 2007 on the ANPP ticket where he lost to Gabriel Suswam of the PDP who won with 1,086,489 votes against Saror’s 276,618.
