OpenLife Nigeria reports that suspected members of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Saturday invaded Kautikari village of the Chibok local government area in Borno State, setting primary and day secondary schools ablaze.

This is coming just hours after the Katsina State Government confirmed the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while in the custody of bandits.

Katsina State government described the incident as a tragic loss to the state and the nation.
In an announcement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, and made available to journalists, the government said the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.

According to the statement, several efforts were made by the state government and security agencies to secure his release, but the attempts were unsuccessful.

On the Chibok schools fire, sources said that the incident which erupted at about 7pm on Saturday forced residents to flee out of the community into the bush for safety.

Security personnel who hail from Kautikari but are based in Maiduguri confirmed the fresh attack even as he said details of casualties are yet to be ascertained.
