Governor Udom Emmanuel Will Go To Jail
OpenLife Nigeria reports that Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State is currently under fire over his choice of successor.
The governor, on Sunday, January 30, presented the commissioner for Lands, Pastor Umo Eno, as the preferred candidate to succeed him as Governor in 2023 at a well-attended PDP Stakeholders’ Meeting which took place at the Governor’s Lodge, in Uyo.
Former Governor, Obong Victor Attah, made the formal presentation of the governor’s successor to the stakeholders, which comprised major and leading political chieftains from the three senatorial districts, who all applauded the choice and pledged to work towards his emergence as the governor of the state come 2023.
Reacting, a top politician in the State who spoke to OpenLife Sunday night, emphasized that governor Udom Emmanuel is a poor student of history.
The politician who did not want his name mentioned stated that Udom Emmanuel is repeating the error Obong Victor Attah made in 2007.
Said he: “Around 2006, then governor Obong Attah nominated his son-in law, Ekarika, to succeed him. That did not go down well with party stakeholders. It was undemocratic. But in Akwa Ibom State, we don’t settle for undemocratic tendencies. That was how we worked against the governor’s choice and Godswill Akpabio became the governor. We will frustrate governor Udom Emmanuel at the poll,” he boasted.
He added that the governor has allegedly been involved in fraudulent activities which he needs a successor that would cover his tracks.
“But, we will teach him the lesson of his life by ensuring that another individual emerges as the next governor of Akwa Ibom State who will probe his alleged fraudulent activities and send him to jail,” he vowed.
He stated further that governor Udom’s choice is dead on arrival requesting that the governor
should give account of the humongous resources from Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, as well as federal allocations over the years.
He noted that in democracy, it is the people that choose candidate and not by imposition and promised to open all the cans of worms in the days ahead since governor Udom Emmanuel has, out of sheer political arrogance, decided to walk the path of godfatherism and twist democatic principles.
On his part, the Member Representing Etinan Federal Constituency, Onofiok Luke, has issued a statement distancing himself from being a party to the nomination of Pastor Umo Eno as Governor Udom Emmanuel’s choice for succession.
Luke in his statement explained that he only heard of the agenda selecting Pastor Umo Eno as Udom’s successor for the first time at an innocent meeting the Governor had asked him to attend at the lodge yesterday evening. He said that he only honoured the invitation out of respect and as a loyal party man.
According to him: “I am not against the choice of the Governor coming from my local government, Federal Constituency nor the aspiration of my brother; however, as a fellow aspirant from the same local government at the same advantage when successful, my aspiration to serve the state in the capacity of the Governor remains on course, this statement would not have been necessary but not for the misrepresentation in media which may create a negative impression about my person and the reputation God has helped me to build these number of years in public service. My supporters and those sympathetic to my cause should please note that we are as resolute as ever in our desire to give our people purposeful leadership in the office of the Governor come 2023. God’s Amazing Grace has always seen us through and will always see us through.”
