Governor Sani Bello: The Ultimate Symbol Of Democratic Ignorance

Governor Sani Bello plunges APC into abyss

OpenLife Nigeria reports that governor Sani Bello of Niger State may have signed up for the responsibility to commence the requiem mass of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
This indication emerged some days back when, after he took over as the National Chairman of Caretaker /Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, of the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, rejected an invitation to attend the party’s emergency National Executive Committee, NEC, scheduled for next week, pointing out fundamental legal errors in the request.
APC had, in a letter on March 8, 2022, invited INEC to its NEC meeting to ratify the choice of Governor Sani Bello as its new chairman.
INEC stated that the signature on the invitation letter was not what they have on their data base, stressing that if the APC had removed Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as its CECPC chairman, the law requires a 21-day notice to the electoral body.
It therefore, in letter on March 9, 2021 to APC signed by Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, faulted the party for notifying it of its NEC meeting without the signatures of Buni and the Secretary of CECPC, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe and asked APC to follow due process if it wanted to effect change of leadership.
The electoral agency stated further that the laws do not have provision for emergency change of leadership by any party.
This development, however, came to a lot of Nigerians as shock with many asking if 54 years old governor Sani Bello, also known as Lolo, does not have elementary knowledge of the law governing party administration.
In the estimation of many, governor Sani Bello, who arrived at the National Headquarters of the All Progressives Congress, Abuja on Monday, March 7, to take over as Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party, is the ultimate symbol of democratic ignorance.
They opined that he ought to have consulted his Justice Commissioners for proper advice before embarking on his current suicide mission which has plunged APC into confusion with governance relocating to London.
A student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University , a university in Niger State, who spoke with OpenLife on the condition of anonymity Friday morning emphasized that nothing good will come out of Governor Bello saying “If you are expecting anything good to come out from Bello, better go back and sleep. This is someone who cannot govern his state. How can he manage a party with national spread? He will lead the party into confusion,” he stated.
Further, the student took a swipe at the leadership of the party made up of abundant legal experts saying “This is why nothing works in this country. How can people who are to implement the various laws in the land not aware of simple things and follow established processes in administration of governance?
“But it is shocking that they cannot read to understand simple rules and regulations in a law they signed not long ago.”
