Governor Ifeanyi Okowa restores workers, appointees full salaries

&NewLine;<p>Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has restored  workers and  appointees full salaries&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The governor gave the&nbsp&semi;&OpenCurlyQuote;immediate’ directive to the Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General in Asaba&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Secretary to the State Government&comma;SSG&comma; Mr <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">Chiedu Ebie<&sol;a> issued the directive in a government special announcement issued by the <&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>In the statement&comma; &nbsp&semi;the government recalled the downward review of salaries in the state in July 2020&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Governor Ifeanyi Okowa said  that the restoration is based on the recent upward review of <a href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;thenationonlineng&period;net">petroleum price<&sol;a> and electricity tariffs&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>According to Ebie&comma; the state government took the decision to restore the salaries after due consultation with the organized labour&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The state government in the announcement thanked the organized labour and workers for their understanding&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h3 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>Governor Optimism<&sol;strong><&sol;h3>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p><&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Government however&comma;  expressed optimism for the reflation of the country’s economy&period; It therefore solicited the continued support of the Deltans for government’s effort at overcoming the <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">economic challenges<&sol;a>&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Deltans will recall that following the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the <strong>Nationa<&sol;strong>l economy and the consequent sharp drop in revenues accruing to all tiers of government&comma; the State Government&comma; after due consultations with the Organized Labour&comma; carried out a downward review of the salaries of its workforce comprising political appointees and officers on Salary Grade Level 07 and above&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The downward review which took effect from July 2020 was intended to last until December&comma; 2020&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;However&comma; due to the effects of the recent upward review of pump price<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Governor Ifeayi Okowa has directed the immediate restoration of salaries of the affected categories of workers and appointees&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The State Government commends the understanding exhibited by the <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">Organized Labour<&sol;a> and the affected personnel&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Deltans are implored to continue lending supports to the State government as the full reflation of the country’s economy is being awaited&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Meanwhile&comma; immediate implementation of this directive has been communicated to the Commissioner of Finance and Accountant General of the State&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p> <&sol;p>&NewLine;
