A group, Kogi Liberation Vanguard, KLV, has alleged that the biggest mistake stakeholder in the 28- year old State have made since the rebirth of democratic governance in 1999 was to support Yahaya Bello’s emergence as Kogi governor in 2015 given that he neither contested nor won the contest.
This view was contained in a press release signed by Kehinde Ajuola, publicity Secretary of the group and made available to OpenLife
To the group, Governor Yahaya Bello is a failure and therefore, does not deserve a re- election.
“There is nothing to show that Kogi has a government. Roads are bad. No employment. Schools are not funded. He pockets security vote to buy votes on Election Day. Bello’s pre occupation is to buy his way to office again. This time, it wouldn’t work. He did it in 2015. But things have changed. He is currently disbursing monies to traditional rulers and Abuja APC leaders for support. That, in itself, will fail because Abuja leaders will not vote on election day” the statement stated.
“It is a shame that Kogi has a young man as a governor, yet, the State is the most backward in innovation and modern democratic strategies. A vote for Bello is a vote for retrogression and we will not allow it to happen,” the group vowed.
However, the group, who are mostly APC members drawn from the three senatorial districts, has promised to sustain its campaign for what it calls “liberation” from “poverty and backwardness” with a promise to vote anyone but Bello.
Kogi State, created in 1991 is billed for governorship contest in November, 2019.
Many aspirants from different political platforms are currently navigating the landscape, holding meetings with stakeholders and soliciting for votes.
