OpenLife News reports that Ghanaian gospel musician Essi Donkor has encouraged students in Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo in the Central Region to take their education seriously after donating essential school supplies and announcing a GH¢2,000 cash prize for the student who records the best results in the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The initiative, which took place in Essi Donkor’s hometown in Ghana, forms part of her efforts to give back to the community and support the educational development of young people in the area.

The donation provided students with exercise books, school bags, pens, mathematical sets and other stationery items needed for their day-to-day academic work.

For the beneficiaries, the gesture was not simply about receiving new school materials. It was also a show of encouragement from someone who shares their roots and understands the importance of creating opportunities for young people to succeed.

Essi Donkor used the occasion to remind the students that education remains one of the most important investments they can make in their future.

She urged them to take their studies seriously, develop good reading habits and remain disciplined both in and outside the classroom.

The gospel musician also cautioned the students against allowing distractions to take their attention away from their education, stressing the need for determination and consistency if they want to achieve their ambitions.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the materials presented to them and show through their academic performance that the support had been put to good use.

According to her, success in school requires more than having access to books and other learning materials. Students must also be willing to work hard, listen to their teachers and remain committed to their studies even when they face difficulties.

The initiative took another significant turn when Essi Donkor’s team lead, Gentletheblogger, challenged the students to work towards excellent results in the upcoming BECE.

Addressing the students, he told them that the donation should serve as motivation for them to put in greater effort and take their education more seriously.

“Learn hard and pass your BECE. Do not see this support as something ordinary. It is an encouragement for you to take your education seriously and work towards a brighter future,” Gentletheblogger told the students.

He further announced that Essi Donkor’s management had decided to reward the student who obtains the highest grade in the BECE with GH¢2,000.

The announcement immediately added another dimension to the initiative, giving the students a clear academic target to work towards as they prepare for the examination.

The prize is intended to encourage healthy competition among the students while reminding them that hard work and commitment can open doors to further opportunities.

Rather than making the reward the sole motivation for the students, Essi Donkor and her team encouraged them to see it as an additional incentive to remain focused on their education.

The team believes that supporting students with basic learning materials while also recognising academic achievement can help create a stronger culture of education within the community.

For students who may struggle to afford some of the basic materials needed for school, the donation is expected to ease part of that burden and allow them to concentrate more fully on their lessons.

The intervention has also brought attention to the role individuals, particularly public figures and entertainers, can play in supporting development within their communities.

Essi Donkor has maintained a connection with Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo despite her growing career in the gospel music space, and her decision to return home with an educational initiative has been welcomed by members of the community.

Residents and community members who witnessed the initiative commended her for remembering the young people in her hometown and using her resources to support their education.

For many communities, access to quality education is influenced not only by what happens in the classroom but also by the support children receive from their families, communities and other stakeholders.

The intervention by Essi Donkor therefore provides an example of how community members can contribute to the educational development of children, even through relatively simple initiatives.

The school supplies donated to the students are expected to provide immediate assistance, while the GH¢2,000 BECE prize provides an added incentive for them to remain focused over the coming months.

The students have consequently been encouraged to take their studies seriously, respect their teachers and develop a consistent approach to learning.

They have also been reminded that the responsibility for turning the support into meaningful results ultimately rests with them.

While the materials can help provide some of the resources required for their studies, it is their commitment, discipline and determination that will determine how far they go.

The initiative also carries a wider message about the importance of giving young people reasons to believe in themselves.

For students growing up in communities such as Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo, seeing someone from their own background return to support them can provide encouragement and reinforce the belief that their circumstances do not have to determine their future.

Essi Donkor’s gesture therefore goes beyond the items presented during the donation. It has opened a conversation about education, ambition, discipline and the responsibility of successful individuals to contribute to the communities that helped shape them.

The announcement of the GH¢2,000 prize has further given the students something concrete to work towards as they prepare for the BECE.

The expectation from Essi Donkor and her team is that the students will respond to the gesture not merely with appreciation but with greater commitment to their education.

The message delivered during the initiative was straightforward: support can provide an opportunity, but students must put in the work to make that opportunity count.

As the BECE approaches, attention will now turn to the students and the efforts they put into their studies.

For Essi Donkor, however, the most important outcome of the initiative may not simply be who eventually wins the GH¢2,000 prize.

It is the hope that the donation will encourage the students to take their education more seriously, believe in their potential and continue striving for a better future.

Through the initiative, the gospel musician has demonstrated a practical commitment to her hometown while using her platform to encourage the next generation to place education at the centre of their aspirations.

And as the students return to their classrooms with new school supplies and a new academic target, the challenge remains firmly in their hands: study hard, stay focused and turn the support they have received into results
