G100 Unveils Enforceable Framework

 

OpenLife News reports that the G100 has unveiled a framework for Nigeria’s sustainable democracy, proposing a Government of National Competence anchored on a single four-year transition term to unite opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The proposal was presented on Monday by Mallam Salihu Moh. Lukman at the Summit of Nigeria’s Opposition Political Parties held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

More Than A Merger Of Ambitions

Representatives of <strong>ADC, APM, NDC, PDP, PRP and SDP attended the summit, alongside presidential and vice-presidential candidates and the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Lukman said the proposed government would be built on competence, integrity, national inclusion and fair representation, backed by a four-year National Reset Programme.

“The Framework before you propose something more demanding than a merger of ambitions: a Government of National Competence, built on competence, integrity, national inclusion, and fair representation of every party that contributes to the effort,” he said.

Agreement Must Be Enforceable, Written, Witnessed

Lukman stressed that the single-term arrangement must be backed by an enforceable agreement, not political promises.

“We want to underline the word ‘enforceable.’ Nigerian politics has never suffered from a shortage of sincere promises. What it has suffered from is promises that nobody could enforce when the person who made them changed his/her mind.”

He added that any agreement “must be written, it must be witnessed, and it must have consequences.”

Lesson From 2023: “Division Cost Opposition The Presidency

Lukman cited the 2023 election as proof of why opposition unity is critical.

“The winner took just under nine million votes. One opposition candidate took close to seven million.

Another took just over six million. Thirteen million votes on one side of the argument, under nine million on the other. And the side with fewer votes formed the government, lawfully, constitutionally, and entirely predictably.”

Structure: 3 Committees, 5 Working Groups

The G100 proposed 3 standing bodies for the coalition:
-Central Leadership Committee
-Publicity and Communication Committee
-Legal Committee

Five working groups will also develop proposals within 4 weeks on:
-National Covenant for Democratic Renewal
-Single-Term Transition Charter
-National Reform Programme
-Framework for Opposition Unity
-Roadmap To Select A Common Presidential Candidate

No Party Will Be Asked To Dissolve

Lukman clarified that the summit was not asking any party to dissolve or any candidate to step down.

“It is not asking any party to dissolve. It is not asking any party to disappear into another party. It is not asking any candidate to stand down this morning… That question is not on the agenda of this Summit.”

He warned that concealed disagreements could destroy the coalition: “A hard line concealed this morning is a coalition that collapses in October, and that one will collapse in public too.”

Lukman said G100 is not supporting any candidate or party, but is seeking an opposition alliance that gives Nigerians “the credible possibility of an alternative government.”

The framework will be refined by working groups and presented for adoption at a second summit.
