From Charity Visit To Crown: How Tayo Sobola Became Sarauniya Of Uke Kingdom
OpenLife reports that Nollywood actress Tayo Sobola has narrated the surprising chain of events that led to her installation as Sarauniya of Uke Kingdom in Nasarawa State, describing it as something she never planned or imagined.
She explained that the entire experience began casually, after someone approached her at her shop in Abuja and invited her to take part in a charity outreach in Uke. According to her, there was no special preparation or expectation attached to the journey, as she simply agreed and joined the trip without questioning what lay ahead. “I didn’t pick myself, nor did I know anything about it,” she said.
On arrival at the Emir’s palace, she recalled that everything still felt normal at first. Guests were seated while awaiting the Emir’s appearance, and she paid little attention to the conversations happening around her.
“I was invited to join a charity mission in Uke by an acquaintance who visited my shop in Abuja. He pleaded with me to come along, and I agreed. I simply picked an outfit from my collection, wore it, and left for Nasarawa.”
The situation, however, took an unexpected turn when the Emir eventually came out and singled her out to sit beside him.
According to her, the atmosphere quickly shifted as people began reacting in a way she did not understand. “While waiting, I noticed an intense conversation between my companion and another man but paid little attention. Soon after, the Emir emerged and invited me to sit beside him.”
She further revealed that she was later informed she would not be permitted to leave the palace until she was installed as Sarauniya. What confused her most, she said, was the explanation that followed about tradition and spiritual consultation.
“Apparently, where I sat down upon entering the palace was the seat of the former Sarauniya, and the kingdom had been waiting for years for a stranger to unknowingly occupy the seat. Each time a visitor entered the palace, the soothsayer would consult the spirits to determine if the person was the destined successor. That day, it turned out to be me.”
The experience left Tayo Sobola both surprised and reflective, as she stepped into a role she never planned or imagined. What started as a simple visit for charity ultimately became a life-changing moment that placed her in royal history as the Sarauniya of Uke Kingdom.
