Former Zambia President ill
OpenLife Nigeria reports that Kenneth David Kaunda, also known as KK, first President of Zambia from 1964 to 1991 is ill and currently in hospital.
He is 97 years old.
Everyone in Zambia is praying for his survival.
The Zambia’s founding father has been admitted to hospital after feeling “unwell”, a statement from his office says.
He is one of the last surviving figures from Africa’s anti-colonial struggle of the 1950s.
Kaunda became Zambia’s first president in 1964.
The statement says that Dr Kaunda is “requesting all Zambians and the international community to pray for him as the medical team is doing everything possible to ensure that he recovers”. There is no indication of what might be the matter.
Dr Kaunda, who left power in 1991, has been in hospital several times before.
Also joined in the prayers for Kaunda’s survival is President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.
The South Africa President says his country has joined the people of Zambia in prayer for the health of founding father Kenneth Kaunda.
“Mr Kaunda is in hospital being treated for an undisclosed illness.”
In a tweet, Mr Ramaphosa wishes the 97 year old a “speedy and full recovery.”
The former Zambia President is the youngest of eight children born to an ordained Church of Scotland missionary and teacher, an immigrant from Malawi.
The Rusangu University graduate authored “Zambia Shall Be Free.”
