<p><strong><a href="https://openlife.ng/">OpenLife Nigeria</a></strong> reports that former United States of America Vice President, Kamala Harris, has applauded President Donald Trump for the success in restoring peace to Middle East.</p>
<p>Just yesterday, US President Donald Trump and other world leaders signed the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement during a summit in Egypt after Israeli hostages and Palestinians prisoners and detainees were released.</p>
<p>Trump posed in front of a banner which read <strong>&#8220;Peace 2025&#8221;</strong> as he greeted individually the world leaders attending the event, including Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.</p>
<p>The US President, Egypt&#8217;s President Sisi, Qatar&#8217;s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Turkey&#8217;s President Erdogan placed their signature on the document that sealed the first phase of the ceasefire deal.</p>
<p><em><strong>&#8220;We&#8217;ve achieved what everybody said was impossible &#8211; at long last, we have peace in the Middle East,&#8221;</strong></em> said Trump during a news conference.</p>
<p>Reacting, Kamala Harris applauded the move by President Trump who galvanized other leaders to achieve the peace accord.</p>
<p><em><strong>“Today is an important first step toward a more hopeful future. I commend the leaders and partners whose efforts made this agreement possible, including the President and his team,”</strong></em> Harris stated in the statement she personally signed.</p>
<p>The statement titled <strong>“STATEMENT FROM VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS”</strong> and dated October 13, 2025 reads in full:</p>
<p><em><strong>I am thankful and deeply encouraged that this ceasefire has brought long-awaited moments of joy and reunion &#8211; as 20 Israeli hostages are finally reunited with their loved ones and Palestinian families and the people of Gaza begin to receive desperately needed relief from unimaginable suffering.</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>Through diplomacy and persistence, today is an important first step toward a more hopeful future. I commend the leaders and partners whose efforts made this agreement possible, including the President and his team.</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>There is still much more work to do to secure a lasting peace, ensure the safety and dignity of every innocent life, and build a future where Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in freedom and security,&#8221; </strong></em>Harris said.</p>
<p>It would be recalled that Kamala Harris, 61 and a democrat, contested the 2024 presidential race with Donald Trump.</p>
<p>She began campaigning after Biden stepped out of the race after stumbling badly in a June presidential debate with Trump.</p>
<p>His performance sparked concerns about his ability to serve until the end of a second term in 2029, when he would be 86.</p>
<p>Biden dropped out of the race on July 21 and endorsed his vice president. Harris quickly took over the Democratic campaign.</p>
<p>She was seen among many Democrats as a potential saviour for her party: the first Black woman and the first person of South Asian descent who could reach the Oval Office.</p>
<p>Four years earlier, she broke the same barriers for the vice presidency by becoming Biden’s second in command.</p>
<p>Harris ran an energetic campaign focused on moving away from Trump’s dark message of economic ruin and immigrants flooding the country.</p>
<p>A key element of her platform was her advocacy for women’s reproductive freedom, a rallying cry that resonated with many young voters who flocked to her rallies.</p>
<p>The Harris campaign had hoped for a surge of support from women.</p>
<p>But it wasn’t enough to overcome the deep anger among <a href="https://www.vanguardngr.com/">US voters</a> over high inflation, the cost of basic necessities such as food and housing, and worries about undocumented immigration, according to exit polls.</p>
<p>Trump’s promise to return to a <strong>“golden age of America”</strong> saw the key battleground states move decisively away from the Democrats.</p>
<p>Conceding defeat, Kamala Harris reassured her supporters that, while they did not win the United States presidential election that year, the fight was far from over.</p>
<p><em><strong>“The outcome of the election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,”</strong></em> she said in a concession speech to a crowd of students and supporters at Howard University in Washington, DC, her alma mater.</p>
<p><em><strong>“Hear me when I say the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting,”</strong> </em>Harris said, which was the first time she spoke to her supporters since Republican candidate Donald Trump won the race.</p>
<p>Trump eventually took oath of office on January 20, 2025, returning to power as the 47th US president four years after refusing to accept defeat to President Joe Biden.</p>
