<p><a href="http://OpenLife.ng"><strong>Former president of Nigeria has died.</strong></a></p>
<p><strong>Chief <a href="http://OpenLife.ng">Ernest Shonekan</a> who headed the Interim National Government that succeeded the junta of <a href="http://OpenLife.ng">General Ibrahim Babangida</a>, has died.</strong></p>

<p>The Ogun High Chief died on Tuesday morning at Evercare hospital in Lekki area of Lagos State after a brief illness.</p>
<p>He was aged 85.</p>
<p>He was the interim head of the Nigerian Government between August 26 and November 17 1993 when he was ousted in a coup led by late General Sani Abacha.</p>
<p>He was a former chairman of UAC and its first Nigerian Managing Director.</p>
<p>Shonekan was a British-trained Nigerian lawyer and industrialist.</p>
<p>He is survived by his wife, Margaret Shonekan and children.</p>
