OpenLife Nigeria reports that former Ebonyi State governor, Engineer Dave Umahi, now Senator-Elect, representing Ebonyi South, has disclosed the number of Senators-Elect that have agreed to vote Senator-Elect Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly which is billed to be inaugurated on June 13.
Umahi, 59, made this disclosure Friday afternoon during an interactive session on Arise TV.
According to Umahi, who chairs the Akpabio/Barau Senate principal office Group, Godswill Obong Akpabio and Senator Jibrin Barau, as the Senate President and Deputy Senate President of the 10th Assembly is well intentioned and for the overall national interest.
“We have secured the assurances of about 75 Senators-Elect for the June 13 Senate presidency contest,” Umahi said.
He added that “Akpabio is a unifier. Talk about the character of his deputy, Barau is a credible ticket.
“It will be dangerous to have a Muslim Senate president,” Umahi said, obviously referring to his aversion to the Senate presidency of former Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari.
