Federal Government Issues Notice For 2027/2028 UK Commonwealth Scholarship

 

OpenLife News reports that  Federal Ministry of Education has called for applications from qualified Nigerian graduates for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowship Plan to study in the United Kingdom.

The notice, shared by the Lagos State Scholarship Board and signed by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David for the Minister of Education, stated that applications will close on October 20, 2026.

The scholarships cover a one-year taught Master’s programme or doctoral studies of up to three years in any UK university.

Eligibility Requirements

According to the Department of Scholarship Awards, formerly the Federal Scholarship Board:

Master’s Applicants: Must have a first degree with at least Second Class Upper Division.

PhD Applicants: Must have a relevant Master’s degree plus at least Second Class Lower Division in their first degree.

Admission: All applicants must have secured admission offers from at least two UK institutions. PhD Applicants: Must also submit a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor at their chosen UK institution.

NYSC: Evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps is mandatory for all categories.

Selection Criteria

The Ministry said applications will be assessed based on:
“Academic merit, Development impact upon completion, and Quality of Study plan.”

Applicants are also advised to align their proposed studies with Nigeria’s development priority areas including education, health, economic growth, governance, climate and environment, engineering, science and technology, food and nutrition, and humanitarian emergencies.

How To Apply

All applications must be submitted online through the Electronic Application System, EAS:Register on the EAS portal and complete the online application form.

Upload scanned copies of your passport photograph, university transcripts, birth certificate, and admission letters from the UK institutions listed. Submit your completed application online on or before October 20, 2026.

After submission:

Generate a PDF version of your form, download and print one hard copy for submission at the interview venue.
