Areview of the information Senator Chukwu Kelvin Chizoba, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, submitted under oath to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of his re-election bid for the 2027 general elections has revealed apparent inconsistencies in his age and academic records, raising questions about the accuracy of his sworn declaration.

An examination of the documents submitted by the senator, reviewed by SaharaReporters, identified discrepancies relating to his date of birth, primary school timeline, academic qualifications and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) records, with the details appearing difficult to reconcile.

According to the records and documents Senator Chizoba submitted to INEC, the lawmaker declared under oath that he was born on January 10, 1972.

However, the same documents indicate that he completed his primary school education and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1977.

This therefore suggests that the senator completed primary school at the age of five, a timeline that appears inconsistent with Nigeria’s conventional six-year primary education system.

SaharaReporters also observed another discrepancy involving the senator’s university education and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) records.

In the sworn documents submitted to INEC, Senator Chizoba stated that he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree on June 22, 2021.

However, the NYSC certificate attached to his submission indicates that he participated in the compulsory one-year national service between June 9, 1997 and June 8, 1998.

The dates, as presented in the documents, suggest that the senator completed the mandatory NYSC programme approximately 23 years before the date he declared obtaining his LL.B degree, raising questions over the sequence of his educational qualifications.

Seeking clarification, SaharaReporters contacted Senator Chizoba, asking him to explain the apparent inconsistencies in his age, educational history and NYSC records for the benefit of his constituents and the Nigerian public.

Specifically, he was asked to reconcile how his declared date of birth aligns with his stated year of completing primary school and to explain how he could have completed the NYSC scheme decades before obtaining the bachelor’s degree listed in his INEC documents.

As of the time of filing this report, the senator had not responded to requests for comments.
