Emir Of Bichi speaks
OpenLife Nigeria reports that the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, has added his voice to the growing debate on what mode of grazing method the federal government and state governors should adopt.
Ado Bayero is the first Emir of Bichi, an Hausa traditional emirate in Kano State in Northern Nigeria, located in the town of Bichi, Bichi Local Government Area and established in 2019, when the Kano State Government created four emirates from the oldest kingdom of Kano by Governor Abdullahi Ganguje.
Speaking on Arise TV, the traditional ruler cautioned promoters of different policies for grazing.
He stressed that from creation, the Fulanis have been herding saying it’s their main occupation.
The Emir maintained that he understands the federal government’s position and the position of the state governors, saying that both positions have merits.
The new in-law to President Muhammadu Buhari however advised that both parties should endeavour to create opportunities for dialogue and intelligent examination of points for agreed terms and conditions.
“It is not something that cannot be resolved. Both parties should find time to sit down and discuss whether open grazing or ranching should be adopted,” he advised.
Bayero stressed further that Bichi, his emirate has the largest grain market in the West Africa sub-region stressing that he needs peace to take full advantage of the economic potential in his emirate for the benefits of his subjects.
His Highness, Nasir Ado Bayero, was born on 2nd February, 1964, into the respected family of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero. His mother, Hajiya Maryam Bayero, who passed away recently, was an Ilorin princess.
Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero is a descendant of the Kano Fulani ruling house of Emir Ibrahim Dabo, who reigned from 1819 to 1849, then Emir Abdullahi Maje Karofi, who reigned from 1855 to 1883, Emir Muhammadu Abbas from 1903 to 1919, Emir Abdullahi Bayero, who reigned from 1926 to 1953 and Emir Ado Bayero, who reigned from 1963 to 2014.
The Emir is also a prince from his maternal side as his mother was from the Fulani ruling house of Ilorin. His mother, late Hajiya Maryam, was a descendant of the leader of the Fulani dynasty in Ilorin, Sheikh Salihi Janta, also called Shehu Alimi and also the first Fulani Emir of Ilorin,
His Bichi Emirate consists of 9 Local Government Areas of Kano State. These local governments are Bichi, Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, Kunchi, Makoda, Dambatta, Dawakin Tofa, and Tofa local governments.
