The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion.
Igbinedion who is currently in the EFCC’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja is being grilled over diversion of public funds to the tune of N1.6 billion.
The former governor who was convicted of corruption in 2007 after his tenure, is said to have diverted a loan obtained by the Edo State government to settle the financial indebtedness of a company in which he was said to have an interest.
Spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the development.
In 2008, Igbinedion was prosecuted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with an option of N3.5 million fine for embezzling N2.9 billion belonging to Edo state.
