Eagle Square Fall: Gloating Over Tinubu’s Fall Unnecessary—Obi

Eagle Square Fall

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that gloating over the fall of President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday at Eagle square , Abuja, is unnecessary.

Reports have it that President Tinubu stumbled and fell on Wednesday as he boarded his ceremonial parade car at Eagle Square in Abuja.

Tinubu, was at the stadium for the Democracy Day celebrations.

He appeared to miss a step as he was about to enter the vehicle designated for the ceremonial inspection of the parade when he fell.

His security officers and aides, however, rushed quickly to his aid, helping him to his feet.

A video clip seen by OpenLife, showed the head of state unshaken after the incident as he waved to the crowd and proceeded with the day’s events.

While confirming the incident, the President’s special assistant Dada Olusegun termed it a minor incident.
“Mr President missed his step while climbing into the truck at the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and tripped. It was a mild misstep. He immediately went on with the ceremonial rounds. No issues,” he wrote on his X page.

Reacting, Peter Obi expressed concerns over the President’s fall, saying that it could happen to anyone.
According to Obi

“I was saddened to learn of President Tinubu’s unfortunate fall today. I wish him well. We achieve nothing by gloating about an accident that could well happen to any of us.

“We are all human beings and, while we profoundly disagree on how to move Nigeria forward, we must remember our common human frailty. Let us stay focused on the issues that will lead to a new Nigeria.

“May this moment serve as a poignant reminder of our shared humanity and the need for compassion, empathy, and unity in our pursuit of a brighter future for our great nation,” the former Anambra State governor said.

The Democracy Day celebration is a significant day in Nigeria, to commemorate the restoration of democracy on June 12, 1993.
