Delta State is emerging as Nigeria’s foremost tourism destination
OpenLife Nigeria reports that Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said his administration is providing necessary infrastructure and support to the private sector to make the state Nigeria’s tourism destination.
Okowa stated this today at the unveiling of Park Vegas Water Park, at Ewuru-Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by Mr Charles Aniagwu, the Commissioner for Information, Okowa said that his administration was investing in the leisure sub-sector to make Delta a tourism destination.
He commended the proprietor of the park for considering Agbor for the project and urged other investors to emulate the efforts of those who are contributing to the development of their communities.
“This project falls in line with the SMART Agenda of this administration; by investing in this environment, they have assisted us in creating wealth for our people.
“By creating a facility for people to unwind, they have created a veritable means of peace-building and relevant health for the people who will come here to relax.
“This park has also helped in the transformation of this environment and has opened it up for further investments,” he said.
He called on the people to patronise the Park to sustain the investment, adding that the investors had made sacrifices by bringing the park to Agbor.
“Oftentimes, individuals invest in different directions, and because they have taken the pains to take this back home, it deserves our support.
“They would have made more money if they had taken this to other climes, but they have chosen to bring this back to their origin.
“The success of this Park can only be guaranteed if we take out time to patronise this Park. Let’s make it a point of duty at regular intervals to make use of this opportunity that this park offers.
“The people who will work and operate in this Water Park will no longer be classified as unemployed because they have been offered employment here,” he stated.
Earlier, the Managing Director of the Park, Dr Nancy Orji, said that the Park Vega Water Park, was a world-class water park and Nigeria’s and West Africa’s first international standard water park.
According to her, the water park was a tourist’s attraction and a core element of the tourism value chain because it’s a great motivation for tourism trips and expenditures.
“This water park will revitalise Agbor’s local economy and by extension, the economy of Delta State by pulling tourists across Nigeria and West Africa, thus increasing revenue for government, local businesses and residents, in addition to providing direct and indirect jobs.
“This Park is designed for families, friends, couples and individuals, and provides facilities for wave pool, adult slides, swim-up bar and a colourful Aqua tower and splash pad for children,” she stated.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Dein of Agbor Kingdom, Obi Benjamin Ikenchuku, Keagborekuzi I and top government functionaries.
Meanwhile, governor Ifeanyi Okowa has commended the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command and other security agencies in the state for their support for the administration since inception in ensuring security of lives and property in the state.
Governor Okowa, who gave the commendation at the official visit of AIG, Zone ‘5’ to Delta State Command, said that the Delta State Government was pleased with the performance of the police Force in the state.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, stated that the state government appreciated the importance of security of lives and property, as the basic responsibility of government in governance.
He said that his administration had not relented in ensuring absolute peace and harmony in the state through the state government collaboration with the Delta State Command.
“When the Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa led administration came into government in 2015, we were not unaware of the fact that our policies and programmes as a government will be hindered if we do not pay adequate attention to the phenomenon of security in Delta State.
“As a result of that understanding we have tried the best we could to constitute very many peace and conflict resolution committees to supporting our state security personnel in ensuring that Delta State is adequately secured.
“Of course, with the robust support of the Nigerian Police, headed by our Commissioner of Police and other security agencies in ensuring that Delta State is secured and safe for business,” the governor stated.
Okowa also applauded the Nigeria Police for her role in ensuring minimal damage during the recent EndSars demonstration and communal crisis in the state.
“We want to thank you for how you have effectively discharged that responsibility. As a government, we thoroughly appreciate all that the Nigeria Police, Delta State Command, under our brother, Hafis Mohammed has done for us.
“Even the ones we had at Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh, there was so much proactiveness on the part of the Nigeria Police, Delta State Command, such that it did not blow up into a high dimension as it was expected by people.
“On behalf of the Delta State Government, we want to thank the Nigerian Police Force a job well done,” he further stated.
