Delta celebrates Statehood @ 29 as Okowa sues for unity

&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Delta State is 29 years old&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">The State was created on August 27 among other States in Nigeria by the administration of <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">General Ibrahim Babangida<&sol;a>&comma; ret’d&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Mr&period; Charles Aniagwu&comma; the Commissioner for Information&comma; says the 29th-anniversary celebration would be low-keyed&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Mr Aniagwu made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the preparations for the 29th anniversary of the creation of Delta&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Conveying the governor&&num;8217&semi;s message&comma; <a href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;thisdaylive&period;com">Aniagwu thanked Deltans<&sol;a> for the co operation with Okowa&&num;8217&semi;s administration&period; He urged them imbibe the spirit of unity as a growth template for the State in the years ahead&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>THANKING GOD<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Continuing&comma; Aniagwu emphasized that the state government realizes the need to thank God&period; He added that in <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">29 years<&sol;a>&comma; the state has transformed from tribal concerns to that of a united Delta&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Aniagwu further stressed that the state government has done well in delivering the dividends of democracy to the citizenry&period; He pointed out <a href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;punchng&period;com">government<&sol;a> frank efforts in the areas of infrastructure&comma; health&comma; education&comma; job and wealth creation&comma; and agriculture&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>DELTA<&sol;strong> <strong>COVID-19<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Breaking down COVID-19 statistics&comma; the commissioner disclosed that as at today&comma; Delta State has recorded a total of 1&comma;701 cases&period; Of the number&comma; 1&comma;518 cases have been discharged while 142 remain as active cases&period; A total of 46 persons were claimed as casualties&comma; unfortunately&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">The Commissioner noted that the figure kept changing from time to time based on several factors&period; Among the factors&comma; according to him are success in contact tracing and testing&period; The state government&comma; he said&comma; is on course in the fight at flattening the curve on <strong>COVID-19&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">According to the commissioner&comma; the government has established several treatment centres&period; He said a second testing centre&comma; located at the <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">Delta State University Teaching Hospital&comma; Oghara <&sol;a>is at completion stage&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>CAUTION<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">He used the occasion to call on residents to continue to adhere to COVID-19 protocols&period; The Commissioner added that contact tracing is still on in the state&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;We are still very much on course&period; We have a number of treatments centres&period; The second testing centre at Oghara is about completion&period; All this aims at flattening the curve&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Tracing of contacts is still very much on&period; But we enjoin everyone to continue strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols&comma;” the commissioner said&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
