Deeper Life General Superintendent, Williams Kumuyi, Under Attack, New Wife Fingered In Church Crises
OpenLife Nigeria reports that following the slightly change of the operational rules of the Deeper Life Bible Church by the General Superintendent, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, a member has gone revolt, accusing the church of double standards as well as the new wife for being responsible for the change of status quo.
The revered General Superintendent had lamented that many Christians who don’t know how to interpret the word of God are driving people away from the church.
Kumuyi who made the remarks in a sermon shared on the Facebook wall of the Ekiti State Deeper Life Church monitored by Church Times also cautioned ushers in his church to stop imposing head covering rules on ladies, stressing that persistent coverings causes heat in the hair and it will emit odour.
His words, “Somebody is coming to our church for the first time. And she happens to be a lady not covering her head. We ask the person to cover her head before coming in. We don’t know whether the person does not even know God. We confront her out there before she even enters the church. We don’t know if she does not know how to pray or prophesy. But we impose rules on her.
“If I were the person, I would wonder what kind of church is this? If they treat me like a primary school girl, that will be my last time coming to the church.”
Citing 1Corithians 11 verse 5 of the Holy Bible, which dwells on the covering of the head for the female gender, Kumuyi explained that women should have their heads covered while praying or prophesying.
He also wondered why some sisters in the church would cover their heads for almost 20 hours a day; stating that many have made themselves unattractive by their appearance.
Kumuyi said, “There are some women who are not attractive to their husbands. Some believe since they are married they are no longer obligated to look good before their husband. There are single sisters that are not presentable. ”
Kumuyi noted that because of persistent covering there will be “heat in the hair and it will emit odour,”
Women who practice such according to him, “put themselves in bondage because they never read the word.”
He said many of the sisters who insist on the covering of hair might not even be praying in the church. They just believe since they are covering their head, they are okay.
“If I don’t tell you maybe nobody will tell you. There are some wives who dress shabbily and are no longer attractive to the man. There are some single sisters that are not presentable. Anybody who is looking for the will of God may not be attracted to them.
The Bible says every woman that pray or prophesies. The reason why you are covering is either you are praying or prophesying.”
Reacting, Ebri John, who claimed to be a member of the church, expressed dissatisfactions with the manner the church is being run.
He pointed out that the Kumuyi of ealy 90s has changed and may have been influenced on capitalism and profit making by his new wife.
John said “I once loved and cherished this ministry The G.O mentored my up bringing. But he changed completely after marriage to his second wife.”
John also pointed out the church policy trust which, to him, has not accommodated the children of the poor even when the poor are the biggest contributors to the church finances through their meager means.
“ Deeper Life high school fees is for politician children and people of questionable financial dealings. Take statistics of how many Deeper Life members’ children of average income are there in the school,” he emphasized adding that Kumuyi’s visit to Aso Rock and comments about current government are unexpected of him “His visit to Aso Rock is unbecoming of a man like Him.”
Further, John lamented that Kumuyi has not summoned courage to speak against all the atrocities going on in the country “He hasn’t gotten any courage to speak against it. Like Adeboye, Oyedepo, Suleiman etc. Compare his teachings on tapes between 1990 and 2007. It will surprise you,” he stressed.
In like manner, another, named simply as The gospel of THE TRUTH, said “Some people are plain stupid. The God you folks are talking about has already covered our heads with hair right from the birth but you like to subject women to all kind of suffering. Religion has always been about domination and oppression, women in particular Stop women oppression! This charlatan’s change of mind is solely driven by commercial gains, he wants more people to attend his church so that he can collect more money from the poor gullible members. Our biggest problem in Africa is that our people lack critical thinking and logical reasoning. That’s why we are subjected to all kind of slavery and oppression,“ The Truth said.
On his part, chukwujioke123, another Facebook enthusiast said “Liberal Theology after decades of breaking marriages and rendering of ladies abnormal and useless with strange stiff doctrines unknown to the Holy Bible? He is preparing the church for rebranding. Soon we would forget how the members used to hate the larger society and other Christians for as little as watching films and attending innocuous social gatherings hitherto forbiden at Deeper Life Church.”
