Debbie Shokoya Hits Back At Nollywood Colleagues Sabotaging Her Career: “My Kid Has Never Been An Issue”

Debbie Shokoya Hits Back At Nollywood Colleagues Sabotaging Her Career

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Nollywood actress and producer Debbie Shokoya has taken to Instagram to call out colleagues she says are spreading false information about her availability for projects.

In a candid post, she addressed claims that she cannot take on work because she recently gave birth and is nursing her child.

Debbie clarified that her family has never been an obstacle to her career, revealing that she resumed producing projects just five months after giving birth.

She questioned why some individuals are attempting to undermine her simply because she insists on being treated with respect.

The actress emphasized her professionalism, noting the care and respect she extends to every person on her set, as well as her commitment to backing payments with proper conduct.

She made it clear that she prioritizes respectful interactions over financial gain.

Some of these people come and approach you like you don’t have a choice but to jump at jobs that come with insult… I am one person who doesn’t mind the money if it’s a good production, but the approach matters a lot to me!

“You can pay me hugely and still not value me. But from your interaction on negotiation with me, I can tell if you truly value me and I am so big on that!”

She also urged her colleagues to reflect on their own behavior before labeling her as difficult, arrogant, or overcharging.

Before you go around sabotaging yourself and not me… Ask yourself why???!!! Before you call someone rude or arrogant, how was your approach?

“Don’t approach people and sound like they are nothing and they don’t have a choice… It’s a craft, it’s a talent, it requires respect, no matter how little!”

Debbie concluded by encouraging producers to engage with her directly and fairly.

Producers… Please reach out yourself and bare all this I have written in mind too. I will be paid, I am considerate, but I know what I will bring to the table.”

Her post underscores the importance of respect and professionalism in Nollywood, signaling a firm stance against gossip and manipulation in the industry.

Debbie’s statement is a reminder that talent and integrity demand recognition, regardless of personal circumstances.
