<p>Under Dr. Adaora Umeoji’s leadership as GMD/CEO starting June 2024, Zenith Bank achieved a 117% year-on-year growth in gross earnings to â¦2.1 trillion in H1 2024, maintaining its position as Nigeria&#8217;s top Tier-1 bank.<br />
Umeoji is driving the success story of Zenith Bank through technology, digital innovation (ZenPay), and strategic expansion in its continued streak of excellence, retaining its position as the top bank in Nigeria by Tier-1 capital for the 15th consecutive year.</p>

<p>She has focused on sustainable growth, customer satisfaction, and leveraging technology to revolutionize banking.</p>
<p>She has spearheaded overhauling the bank&#8217;s IT infrastructure and developing the Fintech subsidiary, <strong>ZenPay,</strong> which has partnered with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for a digital trade portal.</p>
<p>In 2025, Zenith Bank, under Umeoji’s watch, demonstrated strong financial performance, with 9-month (Q3) gross earnings rising 16% year-on-year to â¦3.4 trillion and a profit before tax of â¦917 billion.</p>
<p>Interest income grew 41% to â¦2.7 trillion, while total assets increased to â¦31.18 trillion by September 30, 2025.<br />
Despite higher impairment charges, the bank maintained robust capital, supported by a 60% increase in interim dividends to â¦1.25 per share, reflecting strong confidence.</p>
<p>Before her appointment as GMD, Dr. Umeoji spent eight years as Deputy Managing Director and has been instrumental in shaping the bank&#8217;s growth over her nearly three-decade career there.</p>
<p><strong>Professional Certification</strong></p>
<p>Adaora Umeoji is a Certificated Professional Banker of the Chartered Banker Institute, and a distinguished fellow of numerous professional bodies, including the Chartered Bankers Institute of London, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, the Institute of Credit Administration, the Institute of Certified Public.</p>
<p><strong>The Foundation</strong></p>
<p>Before shattering the glass ceiling in banking, Adaora built a formidable academic foundation. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Jos, and another Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Baze University, Abuja.</p>
<p>She completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School, United States and earned a Certificate in the Global Banking Program from <a href="https://punchng.com/">Columbia Business School</a>, United States.<br />
She received her Master of Laws from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar.</p>

<p>She also holds a doctorate in business administration from Apollos University.<br />
Additionally, Umeoji earned a Certificate in Economics for Business from MIT Sloan School of Management, and completed the strategic thinking and management programme at Wharton Business School.</p>

<p><em>• Recognised as a peace advocate by the United Nations (UN-POLAC), she received the Officer of the Order of Nigeria (OON) national honour from the Nigerian government in 2022.</em><br />
<em>• In 2023, Umeoji received The Humanitarian Services Icon of the Year Award at The Sun Awards for her philanthropic works and commitment to improving the lives of less privileged persons. </em><br />
<em>• In 2024, she received the Banker of the Year 2024 &#8211; Leadership Award from Nigeria&#8217;s Leadership Newspaper Leadership Newspaper.</em><br />
<em>• She was recognised and honoured in 2025 by Arise News as an Exceptional Woman Making Impact Adaora Umeoji: Driving Financial Innovation at Zenith Bank.</em><br />
<em>• Adaora Umeoji received the 2025 Award for &#8220;Outstanding Female Bank Managing Director&#8221; from the NIgeria Chapter of the Women in Aviation International WAI.</em><br />
<em>• She was also honoured with the 2025 Community Excellence Award by the Rotary District 9142.</em><br />
<em>• In 2024, the Association of Professional Women Bankers (APWB) recognised Umeoji for her Remarkable Leadership and Contributions to the Banking Industry.</em><br />
