Construction of Pwalugu Multi-Purpose Dam commences

&NewLine;<p>The construction of <strong>Pwalugu<&sol;strong> Multipurpose Dam&comma; approved by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2019&comma; has started&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>This project which is designed to be a central roller compacted concrete combine&comma; earth and rock fill dam on the banks&comma; is expected to serve Ghanaians in stabilizing power supply especially in the North Ghana&&num;8217&semi;s renewable energy capacity by 2&percnt; to 10&percnt; by 2030 increase &nbsp&semi;to meet the United Nations Framework for Climate Change &lpar;UNFCC&rpar;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&comma; assist in Agriculture&comma; curb flood&nbsp&semi; as well as promoting irrigation initiatives&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>In addition&comma; the Dam has the potential to increase annual rice production in the country by up 117&comma;000 tons and maize up to 49&comma;000&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The primary components of the Pwalugu Multi Purpose Dam Project consist of a dam with an elevation of 165m near the Pwalugu bridge on the white Volta River and the maximum reservoir area of 350km2&semi; a Power House consisting of two turbines 60mw installed capacity and 16&period;5BMW of firm continuous capacity&semi; an Irrigation Scheme consisting of a 12m high weir and a Canal network &lpar;main primary&comma; secondary and tertiary canals&rpar; for 24000ha of land&semi;&nbsp&semi; a 15km overhead line for export of power to an existing transmission line and a 50MW Solar Power Facility&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<figure class&equals;"wp-block-image size-large"><img src&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;wp-content&sol;uploads&sol;2020&sol;06&sol;Dam-1-1024x768&period;jpg" alt&equals;"" class&equals;"wp-image-3682"&sol;><&sol;figure>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Stakeholder Engagement by Volta River Authority&comma; VRA towards the construction of the Pwalugu Multi Purpose HYDRO&comma; Solar and Irrigation Project at Kurugu has been initiated&period; The solar component will compliment the hydro energy to enhance reliability&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Speaking at Walewale the West Mamprusi District capital as part of VRA&&num;8217&semi;s community engagement strategy&comma; the Senior Executive Liaison Officer to the VRA Chief Executive in charge of Stakeholder Engagement for the Pwalugu Dam Mr&period; David Prah stated that the Volta River Authority will continue to engage with the Chiefs and people of the affected communities&nbsp&semi; in a mutual and sustainable manner for a successful implementation of the project&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Expectedly&comma; the people of Northern Ghana and the nation as a whole will enjoy the Multipurpose dam by three and a half years as estimated&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
