OpenLife Nigeria reports that the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria on its victory over the Palancas Negras of Angola in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles had, on Friday evening, defeated their Angolan counterparts 1:0 in a keenly contested AFCON quarterfinal match.
While expressing his happiness over the hard fought victory, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene who is the National Patron of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club noted that the Super Eagles of Nigeria showed patriotism, team spirit, unity of purpose, dedication, commitment and uncommon winning mentality which was crowned with the much desired victory.
“When I was inaugurated and finally given the honor of national patron of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, I was so delighted because my love for football is like religion.
“What Nigerians owe the Super Eagles is to pray so that in any competition we will come out as number one.
“And I also want to use this opportunity to urge to encourage our boys in Ivory Coast. They should know that the best you can achieve in football is to come back home with gold medal no matter what you achieve as a professional football without achieving gold medal in your national color, you have not achieved the best,” he advised.
Speaking further, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene called on governments at all levels to fund and support sports stressing that it is one of the instruments that unit Nigerians as a people and as a country.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President, Lagos equally urged the team to continue to make Nigerians proud as the team tackles its opponent in the semifinals.
