Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos has congratulated the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the affirmation of his re election by the Supreme Court on Friday, January 12, 2024.

In this interview with OpenLife, the Lagos Ohanaeze Ndigbo President who is a long standing friend of the governor calls for supports for the governor to succeed in delivering democracy dividends to the people

Sir, on Friday, January 12, the Supreme Court delivered a judgement affirming the second tenure election of your friend, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. What is your reaction?

Well, I am full of happiness.
I congratulate him time and time because I knew that the election was free and fair and he won the election even though politicians in Nigeria have made it a culture to take their opponents to court in any election even when they know that they lost.

Well, when court gives its verdict, the opponents hand up. It is only stupid and foolish people that will challenge someone’s position when court has given its final judgement.

Above all, I want governor Sanwo-Olu to remember those that worked with him because nobody does it alone.

I also congratulate the deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat, whose dual citizenship their opponents used as part of allegations in the court to try to upturn the election that was won with a wide margin. I am so happy that Supreme Court has done the right thing.

Now that everything has been settled by the court, the governor and his team should double efforts for good governance.

I know Governor Sanwo-Olu has done it before and he will do it again especially now that his personal leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a man with wisdom, filled with native intelligence and common sense, is now in Abuja as President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

However, even when the question of the certificate of President Tinubu arose in the court, I knew it had no stand because leadership is by birth and President Tinubu has quality leadership Leadership is not about Ph.D, if not, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, former Vice President would have given Tinubu a wide margin during the presidential primary election.

So, when it comes to leadership, governor Sanwo-Olu is good. It is all about conscience, sacrifice and interest you have with the people under your leadership. Therefore, I urge governor Sanwo-Olu to consider those non indigenes that worked with him during the campaigns.

This is because so many of us have created enmity for ourselves not only in Lagos but also in south east including jealousy, blackmailing of different kind because some people thought that we were packing millions of Naira and that was why we were taking the risk of pushing for the victory of governor Sanwo-Olu.

I, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, President Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos has been working for the Party since 2018 when I assumed office.

In fact the Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene really worked for the party including Ndigbo in APC in Lagos led by Joe Igbokwe. We really worked for Sanwo-Olu and APC as a party.

Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos

If I had made the efforts I made in Lagos in my State, Ebonyi, the least I would have got is Commissioner.
But I am happy because where I live is my priority. So, no mistake at all. I believe that every work has its reward.

Some politicians use excuses, fault finding to deviate from nature and pocket their conscience without doing the right thing at the right time especially when it comes to issue of Ndigbo, some of them will complain that they are fighting themselves.

But it should be known to everyone that media fight in politics is everywhere. It is not only Ndigbo. It is part of political ingredients. No one has taken cutlass or gun to fight each other. We only disagree on principles through words of mouth.

So, that shouldn’t be an excuse to shy away from doing the right thing. That is why I don’t pester on anyone.
But when it is the time for work, I will make sure I do the right thing and leave the rest to God.

But not to worry my people, governor Sanwo-Olu has conscience. I have taken note of all your complaints but we can’t fault God. We will continue to support governor Sanwo-Olu. In everything, God’s time is the best. Congratulations, once again, my governor.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a leader with wisdom and common sense
