<h4>Catholic Mourns As His Holiness Dies</h4>
<p><strong><a href="https://openlife.ng/">OpenLife Nigeria</a></strong> reports that Oriental Catholic is currently in a state of mourning as His Holiness, Abune Qerlos, 5th Patriarch of the Orthodox Tewahdo Church of Eritrea has passed away on.<br />
His Holiness Qerlos died on December 2, at the age of 96.<br />
Expressing deep sorrow for the passing away of His Holiness Abune Qerlos, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Tewahdo Church of Eritrea said that the protocol regarding the funeral service will be announced in the coming days.<br />
His Holiness Abune Qerlos was elected as the 5th Patriarch of the Orthodox Tewahdo Church of Eritrea on 13 May 2021.<br />
The Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church is one of the Oriental Orthodox Churches with its headquarters in Asmara, Eritrea. Its autocephaly was recognised by Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria, Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church, after Eritrea gained its independence from Ethiopia in 1993.<br />
As it is common with all<a href="https://punchng.com/"> Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox,</a> and Western Orthodox churches; the Catholic Church and the Old Catholic churches of the Union of Utrecht, the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church professes belief in the seven sacraments of baptism, confirmation, eucharist, confession and the anointing of the sick.</p>
