Casualties As Boko Haram Insurgents Attack Borno
OpenLife Nigeria reports causaulities have been reported arising from the attack of Magumeri Police Division in Borno State by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents in the early hours of Sunday.
Information has it that the insurgents were repelled by Police personnel attached to the Division.
According to eyes witnesses, scores of armed terrorists, suspected to be members of the Islamic State of the West African Province, (ISWAP), faction stormed the Divisional Command of Police in the town in a convoy of gun trucks and motorcycles at about 00:35 a.m.
Sources said that the attack triggered a fierce gun battle between the police personnel and the terrorists which lasted until 1:30 am.
The sources said that, the Divisional Officer and his men vehemently resisted and foiled the terrorists’ plan of overrunning them.
One Inspector identified as Bitrus Umaru was said to have sustained gunshot wound, one hilux patrol vehicle was carted away while another gulf car belonging to one of the police personnel was set ablaze by the invading terrorists.
The terrorists were said to have suffered heavy causalities during the fierce battle.
