Buhari’s agenda has nothing to do with Nigeria’s interest—Prof Banji Akintoye

At a time many are disenchanted about the slow response to critical national issues by the All Progressives Congress, APC led federal government, former Senator and Yoruba leader, Professor   Stephen Adebanji Akintoye, has added his voice saying President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda has nothing to do with Nigeria’s interest, a development that warrants the calls, in certain quarters, for his immediate resignation from office as President of the federal republic.

The renowned Professor of History who stated this in an exclusive interview with OpenLife in Lagos, said “I don’t think this is a partisan thing anymore. This situation has gone beyond partisan politics. We elected a man as our President but  he is not behaving as our President. He is behaving as if he has his own special agenda that has nothing to do with the welfare and the interest of Nigeria.”

The former Director of the Institute of African Studies at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife however offered insightful analysis and critical recommendations in view of ominous signs that could degenerate into a state of anarchy saying Nigeria is itching towards anarchy and it does not require university political science knowledge to decipher that Nigeria is currently on the cliff.

He emphasized that the ordinary trader in the market knows that self defence is the way to go even as everybody is defending its home, farmland, villages, hamlet and all.

As a remedy, Akintoye said the Yorubas, as a civilized tribe that abhors anarchy, sat down and decided to institute common sense mechanism for protecting its land called Amotekun.

“I recommended strongly in every part of Nigeria that they should emulate Amotekun and mobilize their young men and let the government pay them to defend the locality and the village. Amotekun is the only way forward. It is the only viable way forward for Nigeria,” he advised.
