Bishop Derek Ehizele Assumes Office As First FUTA95 President

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Bishop Derek Ehizele has assumed office as the first substantive President of FUTA95.
FUTA95 is a union of students across faculties who graduated from the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1995.

Pastor Busola Afolayan,
VICE PRESIDENT

Below is his inaugural speech at the swearing-in ceremonies.

Introduction

Fellow alumni, esteemed guests, I’m deeply honored to stand before you today as the first substantive inaugurated President of FUTA95. With humility and a sense of responsibility, I embrace this call to service.

Our Vision and Mission

Our administration is anchored on innovation, excellence, and purposeful service. We intend to chart new territories— generating revenue through strategic partnerships, supporting local entrepreneurs, and giving back through impactful NGO initiatives.

Adenekan Islamiyat Adeyinka,
Financial Secretary, FUTA95

We will not just dream, we will do. We will not just talk, but work the talk.

Challenges and Opportunities

As we gather here, we’re all aware that Nigeria faces considerable challenges —economic, social, and political. It is in these trying times that unity, caution, and collective intelligence are most needed.

Agharinma Ehiedu,
Treasurer

Together, we must rise above the noise, the frictions, and the distractions. Let’s be solution bearers, not just critics.

Inspiration and Mindset

And as we set our hands to this great task, let us be reminded by the song by R KELLY: “I believe I can fly I believe I can touch the sky I think about it every night and day Spread my wings and fly away I believe I can soar I see me running through that open door I believe I can fly…” In line with this song, WE CAN FLY AND INDEED WE SHALL.

Unity and Diversity

This isn’t just a song, it’s a mindset we must all adopt. As FUTA95, we must transcend limitations and become the trailblazers we are meant to be. Let’s address the cultural and emotional rifts in our community.

Sylvester Aigue,
Assistant secretary

As a group united across tribes and creeds, tolerance isn’t just a virtue —it’s a necessity.

Recommitment and Renewal

Our WhatsApp platform has seen its share of heated moments, but this is a fresh start. Let’s recommit to respectful dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared vision.

Together, we’ll build a united FUTA95 family — responsive to our members’ needs and supportive of our alma mater.

Acknowledgments and Gratitude

I attribute my victory in the FUTA95 elections of July 25, 2025, to God’s grace. I’m grateful for your trust and pledge to serve with humility, vision, and action.

Arowosafe Folusade,
Welfare officer

A humongous thanks to Chief Abimbola Omotosho who soldiered with me while the electioneering campaign lasted.

Appreciation

I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all my EXCO members … Pastor Busola, Comrade Jubilee, Dr Arowosafe, Alhaja Adenekan, Comrade Sylvester, Comrade Ehiedu, Dr Bose. It’s only by syncing harmoniously that we can deliver a prosperous government.

I also want to thank the outgoing team of ad-hoc leadership who did so well in making history with the presentation of a 5 bed women hospital ward to the FUTA Clinic. It’s a testament of our collective unison and focus.

Our Agenda and Priorities

I implore all Futa95ers to have our hands on the deck. Let’s collaborate to raise the standard.

Dr Bosede Akinwalere
PRO FUTA95

We shall look outside the usual project funding from seasonal dues and donations but to developing soft capacities to generate funds and effect humongous projects. Welfare of our Futa95 tribesmen shall be of utmost priority.

Call to Action

We shall throw a love dragnet out there to scout and bring back all our folks who aren’t on the platform. A saner and peaceful platform shall emerge and come to stay as against one with rancour sandwiched with different colorations of denigration and insults.

Futa95 Chant

Join me in this chant that I was inspired to compose. I believe it shall metamorphose into Futa95 anthem: Together, we are indigenes of Futa95! We ride above the tides!

Our chord is one! Our nativity has won!
We are Futa95ers! Yes, we are! Never failing, ever reigning 3ice.

Conclusion

Thank you, and God bless you all.

Bishop Derek Ehizele
President Futa95
