OpenLife Nigeria reports that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday evening, lambasted Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who is the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The former President played host to PDP Presidential Campaign Council leaders in Abeokuta which our source revealed was facilitated by former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola. “ Obasanjo did not want the meeting to hold but Oyinlola persuaded him to receive the team as a father to all political parties,” our source said.
The team led by the Vice Presidential candidate and Governor of Delta State, Okowa, included the Director General of the Presidential Council and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido
Others include, former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke and Otunba Oyewole Fasawe.
A credible source, with knowledge of what transpired at the meeting, told OpenLife early Sunday that former President Obasanjo gave governor Okowa the full length of his tongue, accusing him of betrayal.
OpenLife source, a former Ambassador, disclosed that “Baba did not hide his feelings. He was very straight with Okowa. He accused him of betraying the patriotic resolve to have the 2023 presidency come to the south which the Delta governor and other southern governors championed before the primaries.
“Most of people who made up the team are people who Baba sees as not sincere especially governor Okowa and Sokoto State governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who betrayed Obasanjo and PDP in 2011 by upturning an earlier arrangement for Honourable Mulikat Akande-Adeola to become the Speaker of the Representatives. Obasanjo.
“Everyone knows Baba is supporting Peter Obi and he did not hide it from them. But it was a very good opportunity to remind Okowa and Tambuwal who they are in terms of trust and commitment to a better Nigeria,” the Ambassador disclosed.
