Asking For Yoruba Nation Is Sheer Madness—Dr. Oshiariyo

Asking For Yoruba Nation Is Sheer Madness

Honourable {Dr} Olukayode Oshiariyo, national chairman of the deregistered All Grassroots Alliance, AGA is a politician of note with outstanding credentials. He was the elected chairman, Ibadan South West Local Government Council in 1996. Thereafter, he became the pioneer Oyo State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP {1998-1999. In this exclusive interview with OpenLife’s Staff Writer, Isaac Ngumah, Oshiariyo cautioned those agitating for Yoruba Nation saying it is sheer madness given the positions the Yorubas have held and still holding. He argued that the South East that has not tasted presidential power since 1999 should be supported in 2023

Many people are saying that the present government is not performing. Do you agree?
The insecurity today is more grievous than when Jonathan was there. When PDP was still ruling, we were not as divided as this so things are not as worse as this. The economy has nose dived. Everything is upside down. Everybody is tired and we are just praying that God should let us see 2023 in peace and not in pieces
`

There are fears about the replication of what happened in Afganistan.

You can not rule it out. This man we have at the helm of affairs, Buhari, has another agenda. He is only preaching one Nigeria, but right inside him, Nigeria is divided.
All the appointments he made do not reflect federal character.
He is supposed to be behind the bars by now because, in the constitution, the federal character must be observed.
He promised to protect life and property. How many lives has he protected and how many properties have been lost?
So, we cannot rule it out. When my party, the All Grassroots Alliance, AGA, gets to power in 2023, we are going to probe all the presidents from 1999 till date. We are going to enhance security, transparency and accountability.
We will unveil the mystery that envelope all the reports both financial and crimes under the watch of all the Presidents of Nigeria since 1999 till date. Just wait and see.

What can you say about zoning of the Presidency in Nigeria?

For equity and justice, let the power shift to the south if they want Nigeria to remain one. You say it is your father land it is my father land, how can you say you are a big brother you want to be cheating me everytime? Who can take it?
Let there be equity and justice. That is the only way Nigeria can prosper. That is the only way we can have unity. That is the only way we can have peace and that is the only way we can have progress.
Apart from that, Nigeria will break into pieces.

The northerners are saying that zoning is unconstitutional and others are saying that it is constitutional what can you say to this?

Constitution doesn’t recognise zoning. It was slightly mentioned that it was north and the south. I think it is the fault of the constitutional drafters. The powers should rotate among the zones.
So what we are saying is let power rotate for equity and justice.
From the north, let it come to the south. In the southwest, we don’t need Yoruba Republic. We don’t need Yoruba nation. We have our son, our father, our brother.
The south-south has served as the President for five years. When Adaka Boro was asking for republic of Niger Delta, it was because they were shortchanged within the eastern region. But they had Goodluck Jonathan as President for five years plus.
But the southeast has never served since then. They were Vice President in 1979 to 1983. They have not been at the helm of powers. Again the Yoruba people are not cheated at all. Our man, Yemi osinbajo, is representing the interest of the Yoruba. We have Gbajabiamila. Why do we now say we are asking for Yoruba nation. it is sheer madness and sheer ignoramus of history and reality.
