Ampotuah, Parliamentary aspirant, defies Presidential stay-at home order, campaigns in Ashanti region

To the surprise of many, John Kuma Ampotuah , a Parliamentary aspirant in the Ashanti region of the Republic of Ghana has  defied a  Presidential stay-at home order, put in place  as a precautionary measure to halt further spread of the ravaging COVID-19,  and  campaigned vigorously at Ejisu.

According to Ebenezer Kofi Amponsah of the Africa News Network, Ghanaians are wondering about the attitude of people who seem to be preaching virtue and do vice.

In specific reference, Ampotuah, the parliamentary aspirant for Ejisu in the Ashanti region and the CEO of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan, NEIP, has disregarded the president’s self-restriction imposition directive to solicit for votes ahead of the NPP internal parliamentary primaries at Ejisu in the Ashanti region.

The CEO of NEIP and a lawyer cannot tell Ghanaians and the people of Ejisu he is unaware of the implications of defying the President directive by campaigning and meeting with delegates in Krapa electoral area at the GRNMA Guest house on Monday afternoon.

He later also met other delegates at Fumesua at Kokobra between 6 and 8pm.

But what informed the lawyer to flouts the President’s directives to meet with the party delegates at two separate venues at Ejisu is still unknown. Isn’t he aware of all these protocols? What is it that can’t be put on hold?

Isn’t it surprising to find lawyer John Kuma who is well enlightened to educate people on the president directives to help prevent the spread of the deadly disease going on a campaign spree soliciting for votes in the Ejisu constituency.?

His actions clearly contravene the pronouncement on social distancing, and all other public gatherings and protocols, the president has directed.

It will be recalled that in 2009 when Nana Akufo Addo returned from a trip from abroad after the party’s national delegates Congress in December 2007,

Kuma asked the leadership of the NPP to call President Nana Addo to order when a group of party supporters welcomed him at KIA even without an outbreak of a disease in Ghana at the time.

When asked why he raised those concerns against President Nana Addo in 2009, he said “This has nothing to do with personalities and I am looking at the Constitution of our party and the wisdom the framers of the Constitution.”

Lawyer John Kuma, who knows the heart of the NPP Constitution and believes in the action he took then,  should certainly apply same in ensuring that he simply adheres to the imposition of the Restrictions Act 2020( Act 1012) which clearly restrict the movement of people in the Gt. Accra and Gt. Kumasi including Ejisu.

Apart from the delegates, some constituents have also asked the leadership of the NPP at the regional and constituency levels to crack the whip by offering the requisite sanctions enshrined in their constitution if he is oblivious of the consequences of his actions on the delegates and Ejisuman community as a whole.
