After 45 Days, Suspended CBN Governor Granted Bail

<h4>After 45 Days<&sol;h4>&NewLine;<p><strong><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife Nigeria<&sol;a> <&sol;strong>reports that the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria&comma; CBN&comma; Mr&period; Godwin Emefiele&comma; was today &lpar;Tuesday&rpar; granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Godwin Emefiele&comma; was taken into custody by Nigeria’s secret police&comma; the State Security Service &lpar;SSS&rpar;&comma; on June 10&comma; hours after President Bola Tinubu suspended him from office&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The Department of State Services &lpar;DSS&rpar; hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele&comma; the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria &lpar;CBN&rpar;&comma; is now in its custody for some investigative reasons&comma;” Peter Afunanya&comma; the spokesperson for the agency&comma; said in a press statement&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;After weeks of legal rigmarole&comma; Emefiele was granted bail in the sum of N20 million and a surety in like sum&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The bail followed a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearm brought against him by the Department of State Services&comma; DSS&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;<a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;vanguardngr&period;com&sol;">Emefiele’s lawyer&comma; Mr&period; Joseph Daudu&comma; SAN&comma; had applied for his bail after his client pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge&period;<&sol;a><br &sol;>&NewLine;Daudu contended that the offence for which Emefiele was changed is bailable&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Emefiele was brought to court at 9&period;23a&period;m&period; in a white Hillux pick-up van&comma; with the number plates covered&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;On arrival at the court&comma; Emefiele stepped down from the van assisted by a female&comma; whose identity could not be confirmed at press time&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He was then taken to the courtroom of Justice Nicolas Oweibo&comma; trial judge in the matter&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
