Actor Wale Okunnu Blasts Marketers On Petrol Hike

OpenLife reports that Nollywood actor Wale Okunnu has stirred conversation online, pointing fingers at petroleum marketers over the sharp rise in petrol prices in Nigeria.

In a video shared on social media, Okunnu expressed his frustration, questioning why the country’s fuel keeps getting more expensive while prices remain relatively stable elsewhere.

“As at Saturday, petrol was N1,240 per litre, but as at Sunday, March 22, it has risen to N1,340 per litre. Please, is it the government that increased the pump price within hours or we the people?” he asked, highlighting the rapidity of the increase.

Okunnu also challenged the narrative blaming international conflicts, citing Nigeria’s own oil resources.

“We know there is war in Israel and Iran, but don’t we have our own crude oil? Why is it that our own petrol is so expensive? Other countries that have petrol, why is theirs not as expensive as ours? We are the ones punishing ourselves,” he said.

The actor’s remarks have resonated widely, sparking debates about the role of marketers and the government in Nigeria’s ongoing fuel pricing challenges.

His candid take underscores growing public frustration over the rising cost of living and the seemingly relentless petrol price hikes.
