A Nigerian Governor Breaks Records

OpenLife Nigeria reports that a Nigerian governor, elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has made history, diminishing all known records of appointments by any state government.
The governor, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, on Tuesday, announced the appointment of 14,000 Advisers into his cabinet.
The appointees are expected to be deployed into various political units in the state.
According to a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Kelvin Ebiri, the advisers will play a pivotal role in the administration.
“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers,” Mr Ebiri said.
“The appointments are with immediate effect.”
Governor Wike became Rivers State governor on May 29, 2015. He got re elected in 2019 and is expected to hand over the state in May 2023 when his eight-year tenure would have elapsed.
