Lamine Yamal Discloses The Real GOAT
OpenLife News reports that Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has disclosed who the real GOAT is, declaring that no player was better than Lionel Messi at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Yamal also revealed that the Argentine legend called to offer him support after a “difficult night.”
The Spain international made the remarks in separate Facebook posts on Tuesday, a day after the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.
In one post, Yamal praised Messi’s World Cup performance despite Argentina losing the final.”No player was better than Messi in the 2026 FIFA World Cup!” Yamal wrote.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time in the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium, with Ferran Torres scoring the winner in the 106th minute.
Messi finished the tournament with eight goals and four assists before announcing his retirement from international football in August.
In another post, Yamal thanked the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner for checking on him personally.”A big thank you to Leo Messi. Goat! Thank you for calling me, checking on me, and giving me your support. Your words meant a lot to me, especially after a difficult night. I truly appreciate it, Leo. Much love and respect!,” he wrote.
Yamal’s comment about a “difficult night” came after he finished third in the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings. Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane won the award, becoming the first Englishman to win it since Michael Owen in 2001, with Kylian Mbappe finishing second and Yamal third. Messi finished fifth.
According to reports monitored on Tuesday evening, Yamal has made several posts praising Messi since Monday night’s ceremony, including one after Spain were crowned world champions.
Yamal, 19, helped Spain win their second World Cup title and Barcelona win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in the 2025/26 season, scoring 24 goals and providing 17 assists for his club.
