Only Compromised Candidates  Defected—NDC

OpenLife News reports that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has described candidates defecting from its party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as compromised and lacking ideological commitment to the party’s vision of a New Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq, in Abuja on Monday, October 20, 2026, the NDC alleged that its candidates were bribed by the APC with money, political appointments and other material incentives.

The party said it was aware of what it called the desperate and malicious tactics of the ruling APC to induce what it described as money-minded candidates to defect to its fold.

According to the statement, “For those who have fallen for this bait, it is clear that they lack the values, virtues, and ideological commitment associated with our great party.

“They were never truly of us. To them, we say good riddance to bad rubbish, and we wish them luck in their political misadventures.”

The NDC disclosed that in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, it will immediately conduct fresh congresses to elect credible, competent and trustworthy candidates to replace the defectors in the affected constituencies.

It urged its members, supporters and Nigerians not to be perturbed by the antics of the ruling party, describing the defections as “the last kicks of a dying horse that has seen the handwriting on the wall of its imminent defeat.”

The party reassured that it remains resolutely committed to its mission of rescuing the country and giving Nigerians good governance, security and prosperity.

“A New Nigeria is POssible. We can do it!” the statement added.
