Essi Donkor
OpenLife Nigeria reports that fast-rising gospel musician, Essi Donkor, is set to support education in her hometown with a major donation of exercise books and other stationery items to Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo D/A Primary School.
The gesture, to be carried out through her newly established foundation, is expected to benefit about 1,500 pupils and will mark the maiden project of the foundation.
Starting From Home
According to Essi Donkor, the decision to begin in Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo is personal. The community, she says, played a key role in her upbringing and musical journey.
“Ok, I plan to start from my hometown first because that’s where everything started. Plans are far advanced. Neighboring towns won’t be left out,” she said in an interview.
She noted that preparations for the donation are far advanced and she is looking forward to giving back to the community that shaped her.
Supporting Access to Learning Materials
The exercise books and stationery items will be presented directly to pupils of the school as part of the foundation’s commitment to make learning materials more accessible and ease the burden on parents.
Essi Donkor described the initiative as “only the beginning,” adding that the foundation has plans to extend similar support to other communities in Ekumfi and beyond.
More Community Projects Ahead
The gospel artist said neighbouring towns will also benefit as the foundation grows. She expressed hope that the organization will continue to support children and communities while she pursues her music career.
With this maiden donation, Essi Donkor joins a growing number of Ghanaian musicians using their platform to give back and impact lives at the grassroots level.
