Families of 176 Kaiama Abductees Renew Appeal
OpenLife News reports that families of no fewer than 176 persons abducted by terrorists in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have renewed their appeal to the Federal and State governments to urgently secure the release of their loved ones, nearly six months after the attack.
The renewed plea follows fresh allegations that the abductors have threatened to force “attractive” female captives into marriage and kill the remaining hostages if their demands are not met.
Speaking in an interview monitored on BBC Hausa Service, Abdul Ibrahim, a native of Kaiama, said community members had raised over N155 million through crowdfunding to pay ransom, but alleged the terrorists rejected the money.“We have done everything within our means.
The money was raised, yet our people have not been released. Their suffering continues, and families are living in agony,” he said.
Ibrahim appealed to the Kwara State Government, the Federal Government, and security agencies to intensify rescue efforts, noting that peaceful protests by the communities had also failed to yield results.
Also speaking, the Dan Sardaukin Kaiama, Suleiman Bukata, urged the Federal Government to extend to Kaiama the same security operations that recently led to the rescue of abductees in Oyo State.
“The successful rescue in Oyo has rekindled hope among families in Kaiama. The people deserve the same level of commitment and protection. Every additional day in captivity exposes the victims to greater danger,” Bukata said.
Commenting on the worsening security situation in northern Nigeria, Senator Adamu Aliero said the National Assembly had consistently approved funding requests for security agencies.
He argued that the persistence of terrorism reflected the scale and complexity of the challenge, not inadequate funding.
However, he renewed his call for the establishment of state police, saying governors should be constitutionally empowered to deploy local policing structures to respond more effectively to threats.
