The Story Of Ebonyi State Community Without Electricity For Years And Final Fallout Between Governor Nwifuru And Minister Umahi Over Reps Ticket
OpenLife Nigeria reports that former governor Dave Umahi who currently serves as Works Minister and his successor, governor Francis Nwifuru, have fallen out even though the cracks are yet to be openly acknowledged. Unlike Wike, Dave Umahi is more strategic and careful with political battles unlike Wike, which is why many believe the situation has remained under wraps for now.
The situation is so messy that from all indications, governor Nwifuru may not be re elected.
The entire story centres around Barrister Joseph Ekumankama. He’s from Edda (former Afikpo South LGA) of Ebonyi State. He was minister of state for health. He’s an apostle of Engr David Umahi.
In the on going All Progressives Congress, APC primaries, Ekumankama was surprisingly returned as House of Representatives candidate of the APC for Afikpo/Edda federal constituency.
The incumbent House of Representatives member, Rt Hon. Barr Idu Igariwe who won his first, second & third tenures on the platform of PDP decamped to APC for his 4th tenure.
The governor of Ebonyi State gave him a consensus endorsement but yesterday, a report from the APC National Working Committee declared him not cleared to contest the primary.
The APC committee that conducted the House of Representatives primary election in Ebonyi yesterday declared the Umahi candidate, Ekumankama winner.
The Ebonyi Governor immediately sent his three commissioners to go conduct a parallel primary and declare Idu Igariwe winner. On the published report by the committee from Abuja, Ekumankama was announced winner of the primary.
So, Barr Idu Igariwe has lost his 4th term ambition as the amended electoral act doesn’t permit an option of another political party for him to contest on. That’s the news.
The governor projected him as the next Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives before the game cut. He was to be used by the governor to end David Umahi’s reign in the state as they are both from Ebonyi South. Umahi said it’d not happen.
Idu Igariwe has performed creditably as a lawmaker. But if he had influenced the restoration of electricity to Afikpo LGA, he’d be a champion. Afikpo LGA hasn’t seen electricity for 24 years now.
“Electricity ceased to exist there for 24 years now. Afikpo is the second A-list urban settlement in Ebonyi.
“It’s unfortunate such a city and indeed the entire LGA hasn’t seen electricity for 24 years now. It’s very bad. I’m sure that if Afikpo Chic (Maria Ude Nwachi) is elected to the Senate, she’ll do everything possible to solve it, says Nwoba Chika Nwoba
