It would be recalled that only recently, the actor joined issues with Wale Adenuga over the appropriateness of using โPapa Ajascoโ without authorization.
OpenLifeย had reported that veteran Nigerian producer Wale Adenuga has spoken out following actor Abiodun Ayoyinkaโs revelation that he is facing financial challenges despite years of playing the iconic Papa Ajasco.
Ayoyinka had also indicated that he seeks permission to use the character for personal projects.
In a statement, Adenuga dismissed suggestions that the actor has been neglected financially, praising him for his contribution to the enduring success of Papa Ajasco and Company.
โAbiodun Ayoyinka is a versatile actor who has played the role of Papa Ajasco so wonderfully well.
He bears the closest resemblance to the cartoon version of the Papa Ajasco character, which I created on my dining table in 1976 during my publishing days,โย Adenuga said.
He added, โHe is very close to me, and so far, there has been no irreconcilable difference between us.โ
Adenuga clarified that while Ayoyinka is free to accept other roles, he cannot use the Papa Ajasco brand without approval, as it remains copyrighted.
โHe cannot use the copyrighted brand name Papa Ajasco for personal ventures because it is our duty to protect the brand from inappropriate usage that could damage its reputation,โย he emphasized.
Addressing claims of hardship, Adenuga reminded the public of Ayoyinkaโs long career in civil service and past benefits from Wale Adenuga Productions, including cars and a house.
โNow, the question is: why is Abiodun Ayoyinka claiming to be broke? Where are the investments from his over 30 years of meritorious service with the Lagos State Government? What happened to his gratuities?โ
Wake Adenugaโs defence
He reassured that other cast members freely pursue outside work, noting that filming only takes about six weeks a year.
Adenuga concluded by affirming the companyโs commitment to fair treatment and upholding its reputation in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
