OpenLife reports that Nigerian singer Busola Oke, popularly known by her stage name Eleyele, has opened up about years of unimaginable struggles, revealing the real-life hardships behind her public image.
In a raw and emotional confession, she spoke about hunger, debt, homelessness, and the battles she fought just to survive.
“There are times I will just look at myself and I won’t be able to provide food for myself. I’m a Christian. I never said I was going to commit suicide because I know the implication, but there was a time I prayed to God that instead of leaving me to suffer, why not take my life. I never knew a stage like this would come in my life and that it would be this difficult.”
She described how the shows she performed in could barely cover her transport, leaving her struggling to feed herself and her children.
“The show I use to collect are just able to pay for transport fare, nothing else, but I can’t just sit at home without food to eat. I live my life on debt. Debt all over. I owe a lot of people. I don’t know what can happen to me tomorrow, but I don’t want to leave this world with debt. I want to be free.”
Eleyele recounted moments of heartbreak and danger, including a fire that destroyed her car.
“There was a day I was inside and I was called upon that my car was burning outside, and that was it. I have eyes that have seen a lot that I can’t even say out loud. I have been quiet since 2020.”
Her struggle also included moments of vulnerability and exploitation when seeking help.
“I went to a place where they said they wanted to help me. When I got there, they started making advances at me to do unreasonable things. I left because I couldn’t do it, and the person refused to give me transportation to go back. I communicated with my fans because I was depressed, I just wanted to hear someone say ‘I love you.'”
Perhaps the most devastating part of her story was her experience with homelessness, including sleeping in an airport for days with her children.
“My rent ran out because I couldn’t pay for it. I slept in the airport for three days with my children, using my wrapper to cover them. Helplessly at the airport. I slept in different places because there was no place for me to live in. I have seen a lot.”
She also battled serious health issues during these difficult times.
“I have a heart condition and I couldn’t breathe well. There was even a time I was told I wouldn’t be able to stay more than eleven months, but I survived it. My manager really tried for me and he stood by me.”
Busola, has sparked widespread sympathy and renewed support from fans as she bravely shares her journey of survival, faith, and resilience.
Her story is a haunting reminder that even stars can suffer in silence, fighting battles the public never sees.
