CDHR Condemns
OpenLife Nigeria reports that the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has strongly criticized the increase in tuition fees at the Nigerian Law School despite the ongoing economic difficulties faced by the nation.
The Rights group noted that the recent announcement by the institution’s director-general, Isah Chiroma, revealed that the fee for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic session has risen from N296,000 to N496,000.
This decision, according to the group, is deemed oppressive and unnecessary, as it exacerbates the hardships experienced by Nigerians and restricts access to legal education for the less privileged.
The group further expressed sadness to the effect that currently, Nigerians are already grappling with the repercussions of the removal of subsidies on petroleum products by the Federal Government, which has failed to provide adequate solutions to alleviate the impact,
In response, CDHR’s statement jointly signed by Comrade Debo Adeniran, National President and Comrade Idris Afees Olayinka, National Publicity Secretary, CDHR demands an immediate reversal of the fee hike and proposes a downward review of the tuition fees.
The organization remains steadfast in its commitment to advocate for and safeguard the rights of the Nigerian people.
