Kim Jong Un Meets Putin At Vostochny Cosmodrome Space Centre

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un are holding a summit at the Vostochny Cosmodrome space centre in Russia’s far-eastern Amur region.

This was made known on Wednesday morning by Russian State media. According to analysts, it is their first state meeting since 2019.

Analysts say Russia is eager to acquire North Korean artillery shells for use in Ukraine, while Pyongyang is in need of food supplies, fuel and modern military technology.

Besides, the Moscow and Pyongyang meeting is viewed as strategic given the emerging stronger bonds amongst the United States, Japan and South Korea.

Meanwhile, China is seemed to be the key to restraining a potential arms deal between Moscow and Pyongyang, an expert on North Korean military and politics has said in an earlier report.

Both leaders have items to trade, advantages to gain and pressures at home that might encourage them to align their strategic interests more closely.

However, any agreement will be an “alliance of convenience” and one in which China – being the largest trading partner as well as Moscow and Pyongyang’s most powerful political patron – will tacitly have great influence in deciding the outcome, Tertitskiy said.
