Okada Riders Kill Police Inspector
OpenLife Nigeria reports that commercial motor cycle riders popularly known as okada riders have killed a Police Inspector attached to Isolo Division and injured the Divisional Police Officer of the station in Lagos.
In a statement obtained from the verified Twitter handle of the Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the sad incident occurred when the officers were enforcing the ban on the use of okada for transport in selected parts of the Lagos metropolis.
The PPRO wrote:
While enforcing the existing ban on the use of motorcycles in parts of Lagos State, Police Officers of Isolo Division came under attack from motorcycle riders at Cele bus-stop, resulting in the death of one Police Inspector & serious injury to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
Meanwhile, the Police spokesperson stated further that “Two suspects have been arrested while forty-one motorcycles were impounded. The Lagos State Police Command will not be deterred from carrying out its mandate of enforcing duly established laws.”
He added that Citizens are urged to remain law-abiding, as riders and passengers alike arrested on prohibited routes will face the law. Above all, any form of attack on Police Officers will no longer be tolerated!
