Kenya Deputy President’s Ambition
OpenLife Nigeria reports that on Monday, October 11, 2021, Kenya Deputy President, William Ruto‘s presidential bid, suffered a severe blow after One Kenya Alliance, OKA, principals agreed to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in 2022.
OKA chiefs include Amani National Congress, ANC, party leader, Musalia Mudavadi, his Wiper counterpart, Kalonzo Musyoka, KANU Chairman, Gideon Moi, Ford Kenya Party leader, Moses Wetangula and former Lugari MP, Cyrus Jirongo.
The next Kenyan general election is scheduled to take place on 9 August 2022. Voters will elect the President, members of the National Assembly and Senate, county governors and members of the 47 county assemblies.
According to a news report, the five have signed a pre-election deal with Raila Odinga, who has promised to appoint them to senior positions in his government once elected as President in 2022.
The five leaders have been promised positions of a running mate, Speaker of the Senate, Speaker of the National Assembly, Chief Minister, and other powerful seats in the government.
Raila Odinga is also the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement,ODM, a centre-left political party in Kenya. It is the successor of a grassroots people’s movement which was formed during the 2005 Kenyan constitutional referendum campaign.
To demonstrate their seriousness, information has it that the OKA principals are attending a prayer service at Around the Globe Deliverance Ministry church in Thika after which they are expected to address area residents.
The OKA rally in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard of Kiambu comes barely hours after they met the president over the crafting of what has been dubbed a super alliance ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
They are hot on the heels of ODM leader Raila Odinga who toured the voter-rich region a fortnight ago.
The OKA leaders toured Kakamega County County to kick off their joined campaigns for the presidency before they pick a flag bearer.
